Cars are money pits we all know that, buy a brand new one and you have lost few thousand buy time you have driven it out of the showroom on to the main road. Buy a old one, and you then run the risks of constant repairs, hidden faults etc etc so is it possible to actually make money from cars, well course it is especially current market thanks to Covid19, however here lies the problem, the car shows like Wheeler Dealers make it look so easy buy a banger do it up make a small fortune easy peasy right, wrong! what they don’t tell you is that a team of researchers probably spent 3 months or longer doing their homework on what to buy, what parts will be required and so on . But if your like me and have a very limited knowledge of car mechanics actually if your like me you have limited knowledge of everything probably but then again if you are like me what you lack in knowledge you make up in passion for anything with a engine and steering a wheel ,well then all is not lost. But let’s get the basics out of the way and remember like anything you buy as a future investment, houses, stocks, you normally look to buy cheap and sell for a large profit, and like all those investments the larger profits come playing the long game, however there are expectations to the rule as I will show you later on in this article so bear with me .
So without any delay then here’s my top three car’s that will make you a serious amount of cash in the next few years, how much depends how long you wait. And rather than go for obvious choices I have gone for cars you can buy cheap as little as few thousand to ones that are still under 20k but few years of patience maybe lick of paint few repairs here and there and you will gain double your money or more, but hey it’s a risk as Covid19 has shown us you never know what’s around the corner, so saying that and we don’t get taken out by some dodgy virus, or 5G masts or aliens from space, then here’s my choices.
First up is car that when was launched in 1994 like most of us you would have said Wow that looks amazing, then like most of us me included you would have noticed the Fiat badge and said think I will give that a miss and rightly so let’s be honest Fiat isn’t exactly the poster child of the car world but here is the thing the Fiat Coupe is a little bit different first up the outside it’s got more lines and curves than a 90’s supermodel, to me it looks awesome from any angle and is one of the few cars that can carry the yellow colour scheme off well. The one to go for is the Turbo 20 valve version, with bits borrowed from a certain Lancia Delta there’s a pub fact for you right thrre, few thousand pound buys you Turbo in decent nick usually avoid anything that’s been tampered with go sensible mileage and this bad boy will go around three to four times what you paid for it in a couple of years time with UK numbers already down to 500ish for cars left in UK that is a good thing once it goes to around 200 left values will rocket up so buy now and reap the rewards later .

Ok, next up let’s stay with the cheap bin and this one I have a little bit of a soft spot for, probably thanks to Robert McCall in a certain program called The Equalizer and if Mrs J is reading this yes a early birthday present yes please. Now Birmingham has given so much to us already like Peaky Blinders for a start, the Bullring shopping centre,UB40 and Jaguar. The Jag I’m referring to is the Jaguar XJS V12, the engine is the stuff that legends are made of unfortunately the rest of is stuck together by chewing gum I think. So if you find one expect to pay for a spot of welding or two but as they say in business speculate to accumulate. The V12 engine is a dying breed so if you can find anything with V12 written on the side trust me, it will be worth a bob or two as we say in Yorkshire. Tricky one this as you will already see XJS for selling well over 20k but you can still find the odd one on Facebook marketplace or gum tree for a few thousand but it’s like anything when your bargain hunting you got put the work in, but you will have to spend on the bodywork and interior probably chewing removal but definitely still worth a punt knowing you will gain in the long term , you can find one around 2k spend another 2-3k look to sell in few years time around 14-18k add few couple on top if you bagged the convertible
Lastly now this one is easy money anything from Japan with a turbo on is rocketing in costs already but one thing about this virus is people are selling their pride joys cheaply just to survive financially saying that if had a Nissan Skyline GTR tucked away in this crisis I would be happy living off bread and water than sell my Godzilla by the way that’s the official nickname of these fine beast’s !! Now this are going to cost but if you find one that’s under 12k you could just give it wash and a vac and it would still sell for a profit but if you hang on a year or two expect to fetch over 25k. Try to avoid the obvious track cars or with drivers that think they are Van Diesel, extra gauges on door pillars are bug giveaway of track abuse and the thing I guess is a white vest on back seat find that then definitely move on to the next one. One to go for is the early R32 skyline GTR the non turbos are very cheap but won’t be worth as much in resale. Get one with sensible mileage and you will get anything over 24k back if not more as like I said earlier Jap motors from 90s are the in thing at momentb and values are rocketing already.
Main thing to remember with all classic cars is mileage keep it sensible, you will have to spend money to make it saleable and wait unless like Nissan GTR case which are in demand, then sell quickly otherwise lock it away and watch the value grow. Thanks for reading stay safe see you all soon
